Compare Wilding Wallbeds to All the Rest

Picture of Robert Wilding, Founder and part owner of Wilding Wallbeds Let me introduce myself, I am Robert Wilding, one of the owners of Wilding Wallbeds. I have worked in the furniture industry for 38 years, in management, sales, and manufacturing of wood products. I realize that you as the customer want to know what you are going to get for your dollar, and want to know if it is going to meet your family's needs. There are some issues that are confusing when you are trying to choose the right Wall Bed. Here are some of the differences you will find.

Compare Construction

Wilding Wallbeds uses only hand selected solid wood and top quality furniture grade plywood to construct the finest Murphy Beds on the market. Our side cabinets come fully assembled and are constructed using time proven techniques such as, dovetailed drawers, dado joints, fully inset drawer bottoms and fully inserted back panels. All of our side cabinets have solid wood face frames and European drawer glides and hinges. All our beds and side cabinets come with crown molding, (with the exception of the contemporary Chalet and Dakota styles). We never use PARTICLE BOARD, THERMOFOIL WRAP LAMINATE, AND/OR MELAMINE in our construction. Our side cabinets are not a knock down kit that needs assembly.

Wilding Wallbeds Drawer Boxes

Sometimes it's the little things that make all of the difference in the world. At Wilding Wallbeds, our drawers are just that type of difference. We have always believed that a cabinet is only as good as it's drawers. If and when a drawer breaks, the cabinet becomes worthless in our view, so We build the drawer boxes to last a lifetime. We begin by building the drawer box out of solid wood. This ensures the right start, but we don't stop there, We also "dove-tail" all four corners of the drawer box. This ensures that the four sides of the drawer will remain attached to each other. Next we "fully capture" the drawer bottom. This means that we insert the drawer bottom into all four sides of the drawer box. This ensures that the bottom of the drawer won't fall out. Lastly we use the finest drawer glides in the industry. In our Economy and Original products, we us full extension ball baring glides. In our Gallery Series product we use, not only full extension, but "Soft Close" glides as well. This soft close takes over as the drawer is pushed into approximately an inch from the cabinet face and closes the drawer for you in a whisper quiet motion.

All of Wilding Wallbeds cabinets are constructed with sturdy Dadoed and Rabbit grooves. The front of the cabinet is covered with 1 1/2" hardwood face frame and routered according to the specific style.
All cabinets are made with custom fit dadoed grooves

All plywood parts are finished off with either a hard wood trim or a wood vaneer

The following list defines frequently used terms by other wall bed companies to disguise particle board.
TERM USEDDEFINITION OF TERM
THERMOFOIL WRAP:Thermofoil wrap starts with MDF (medium density fiber) board which is highly compressed paper type fiber. It is then shaped to look like an expensive raised panel door. It is then covered with a paper thin sheet of vinyl (plastic), usually less than 1/64 of an inch thick. This wrap has a pressed grain look (to simulate solid wood) and is heated up and applied to the MDF to achieve the look of a solid wood raised panel door at a fraction of the cost.
MELAMINE:Melamine is just a basic particle board (saw dust chips and glue mixture) with an extremely thin sheet of vinyl (plastic), usually less than 1/64 of an inch, which has a pressed grain look (to simulate real wood) and applied to a flat sheet of particle board.
LAMINATE:Laminate refers to a very thin plastic surface which is then applied to one of several different types of particle board.
The inherent problems with constructing furniture out of one of the aforementioned products are that they are very susceptible to moisture damage. It is very easy to scratch off the thin plastic laminate and nearly impossible to repair. Any truthful cabinet builder knows that screws don't hold very well in particle board type products.

Compare Lift Mechanism

Wilding Wallbeds features both the state-of-the-art piston lift mechanism with few moving parts, or the latest Spring Driven lift mechanism available in the market today. Our mechanisms are intended for EVERY DAY residential or commercial use and will not fatigue. Both the pistons and the spring system can be adjusted to make it easier or harder to lift. We are so confident in our mechanisms that we offer a lifetime warranty on all mechanism parts. Our Piston system is whisper quiet and very easy to lower and put away. The Piston system also features a patented locking leg which improves safety in the home, the Wall bed can not open unless you mean to open it by activating the legs.

Wilding Wallbeds
Features a state-of-the-art piston lift mechanism with few moving parts. The Piston system requires less space to use than any other lift mechanism available.
Wilding Wallbeds
Features spring mechanisms consisting of several individual coils. As of all coil driven mechanisms, this requires less space both width and projection as compared with older spring driven systems.
Other Companies
Rely on bulky, spring mechanisms consisting of many complicated moving parts. Some designs are not meant for daily use and may not fit standard bedding.

It attaches to the wall with three screws. This unit is able to be moved to a new room or a different residence as your needs change. Most models must be floor mounted. The carpet must be cut away and the floor is permanently damaged.
The mechanism is completely contained within the cabinet and once set, requires absolutely no adjustments. Compact self contained spring chambers integrated into the surrounding cabinet; once properly installed, requires no adjustments. The mechanism must be bolted to the floor then the cabinetry must be installed around the mechanism. Doors must be hung and adjusted to fit properly.
The locking mechanism prevents the bed from being lowered accidentally and locks the bed inside the cabinet when not in use. Static force used to hold the bed in the up position. No locking mechanism.
Panel bed design eliminates bi-fold doors. Panel bed design eliminates bi-fold doors. Require bi-fold doors that block access to side cabinets.
Installs in approximately 1.5 hours. No extra time is wasted putting side cabinets together. They are all fully assembled. Requires two to three hours of install time for bed. Cabinets come fully assembled. Requires four to five hours of install time for bed. Then the side cabinets must be fully assembled requiring between one and three hours each.
The piston-lift mechanism is COUNTER-BALANCED and designed for daily use. The piston functions so that "it doesn't know it is working" and is not subject to metal fatigue or catastrophic failure. Utilize high carbon steel springs to eliminate spring fatigue. Lifetime guaranty. The springs expand and contract and fatigue with age, causing the bed to sag out of the cabinet. Springs are expensive and difficult to replace. As springs breaks, there is increased possibility of catastrophic failure.
Mechanism is self adjusting.
It can be adjusted for mattress weight.

Compare Assembly

Assembling your Wilding Wallbed is as easy as it can possibly be. We begin by attaching all the hardware in the appropriate locations before it leaves the factory so you do not have to find all the mechanism parts and then screw them to the wood parts. There are only six wood parts to assemble using four wood screws, which we provide. The wall bed is then raised up to your wall and three screws are put into the studs in your wall. You do not have the arduous task of anchoring it to the floor, which causes permanent damage. Most of our customers spend approximately 1.5 hours installing their Wilding Wall Bed. Murphy beds take 4 to 5 hours, plus the time to assemble their side cabinets, which comes as a knock-down unit.

Once the pivot attached to the Sideboard is placed through the pivot hole on the bed box, simply place the E-Ring on the Pivot to secure in place Once the Headboard is in place simply twist cam fitting 1/4 turn to secure in place Place Bed Crown on top and screw in 3 screws into the pre-drilled holes for a perfect fit
