This article will explain the options and benefits of adding side cabinets to your Wilding Wallbed order.

What Cabinet Layouts Are Available?

Wilding Wallbeds have seven main cabinet layouts: Bookcase, Door & Drawer, Three Drawer, Wardrobe Door & Drawer, Wardrobe Three Drawer, Door & Drawer Hutch, and Three Drawer Hutch. This list can be overwhelming so I will explain what each of these include.

• Bookcase
• This cabinet has six shelves, four of which are adjustable.
• It has no doors or drawers.
• It includes crown and base molding to match the bed (if the bed style has crown and base molding).
• Door & Drawer
• The top portion of this cabinet has four shelves, three of which are adjustable
• The lower portion has a full extension drawer above a door enclosed cubby
• Any cabinet 24″ or wider has double doors at the bottom.
• The door drawer will match the style of the bed you select.
• It includes crown and base molding to match the bed (if the bed style has crown and base molding).
• Three Drawer
• The top portion of this cabinet has four shelves, three of which are adjustable.
• The lower portion has 3 full extension drawers.
• The drawer fronts will match the style of the bed you select.
• It includes crwon and base molding to match the bed (if the bed style has crown and base molding).
• Wardrobe Door & Drawer
• The top portion of this cabinet has a door enclosing a horizontal wardrobe rod.
• Any cabinet 24” and wide has double doors (excluding the Tuscany, Presidential II, and Plantation)
• The lower portion has a full extension drawer above a door enclosed cubby.
• Any cabinet 24″ or wider has double doors at the bottom.
• This requires the bed to have the Deep Design, or Storage Headboard.
• The doors and drawer will match the style of the bed you select.
• It includes crown and base molding to match the bed (if the bed style has crown and base molding).
• Wardrobe Three Drawer
• The top portion of this cabinet has a door enclosing a horizontal wardrobe rod.

What options are available in these cabinets?

There are many options that can be added to the cabinets, here is a list with an explanation for some of the most popular options.

Upper Doors

Upper doors can be added to cover the upper portion of the Door & Drawer, or Three Drawer cabinets. This will make it look like one of the Wardrobe cabinet, but when the upper doors are opened, it reveals four shelves, three of which are adjustable.

Slide Out Night Tray

This is essentially a sliding night stand. It is a great place for your guests to put their phone, a glass of water, glasses, a book, or anything else that it nice to have immediately next to the bed while sleeping. The tray sits beneath the top drawer on the Door & Drawer and Three Drawer variations and it sits below the top permanent shelf on the Bookcase.

Glass Doors and Shelves

Any of the doors can be replaced with glass doors. The doors will have a wood frame to match the bed style, but the door panel will be glass. The glass can be clear, or you can choose from a selection of art glass. Any of the adjustable shelves can be switched out for glass shelves as well. These options can turn the cabinets into beautiful display cases.

Lights

LED lights can be added to any cabinet. The can lights are inserted in the top of the cabinet and include a push switch next to the fixture. Lights are popular with the glass shelves and glass doors, but they can also help add light to the wardrobes, or any of the other cabinet configurations.

Power Outlets

Power Outlets are available on any of the cabinets. The typical placement of the power outlet is in the back center of the mid height permanent shelf on all of the cabinets excluding the Bookcase Wallbed. Power Outlets are only available in the lower permanent shelf on the bookcase cabinet. The outlet options are the PowerDisc2-2 which is a circular power outlet that includes two standard plugs and two USB charging ports. The other option is the FC-747 which is a rectangular outlet that includes four standard plugs that are surge protected, and a USB charging port. When adding either of these outlets to the mid height permanent shelf, it requires that the drawer just below the shelf is made shallower to miss the underside of the outlet.

What sizes are available?

Wilding Wallbeds HomeFront side cabinets are available in any width up to 36” wide. The Studio side cabinets are available in any width up to 30″ wide. After that wilding wallbeds will split the width into 2 different cabinets. You will see that cabinets widths are listed on the website as 16” or 20” in the Studio series, and 18”, 24” or 30” in the HomeFront series. These are simply the standard widths, but the cabinets are available in any width up to and in between the listed widths. The depth of the cabinets depends on the depth of the bed. The standard bed depth is 15 3/4″ so the cabinets are made 13 1/2″, cabinets going with the Deep or Storage Headboard depth beds are 17 5/8″ deep. This depth allows for the crown to sit flush or back from the face of the bed. The standard side cabinets are 77″ tall plus the height of the type of crown molding.

The cabinets in their standard dimensions are shorter and shallower than the bed, this gives them a “stepped down, stepped back” look. If you are interested in the cabinets and beds being the same height and depth as the bed, this can be done as well. This means that the cabinets will be taller and deeper than the standard dimensions. This option is called “Same Height and Depth”.

What is the difference between Studio and HomeFront series?

There are two series listed on Wilding Wallbeds’ website: Studio and HomeFront series. These series both indicate the mechanism that the beds will use (Studio=Spring Lift, and HomeFront=Piston Lift) as well as, the construction technique of the side cabinets (Studio=European, and HomeFront=Face Frame). Here is an explanation of the differences.

Studio Series

The Studio series cabinets use the European construction techniques. This means that the cabinets use butt joints with cam locks. The doors and drawer overlay the ¾” sides and shelves. Most of the Studio series cabinets include crown.

HomeFront Series

The HomeFront series cabinets use Face Frame construction techniques. This means that the cabinets use dado joints (much stronger than butt joints) and have a 1.5” face frame attached to the face of the cabinet. The face frame adds to the aesthetics of the cabinets, as well as, add durability, and helps to secure the adjustable shelves in place. The doors and drawers overlay the face frame. Most of the HomeFront series cabinets include crown and base molding.
